The Otto: An Automatic Weed Grinder Review

The Otto is an all-in-one miller and cone filler. Also known as an automatic weed grinder. They use the word mill instead of grind because the product uses “aerospace-engineered aluminum milling plates.” These plates use A.I. technology to perfectly grind your bud, every time. No matter how you put it, it breaks down your weed for you at the press of a button!

Out of the Package

Right out of the package, the device is surprisingly sturdy and well-built. There is a latch on the side that you can press to open up the Otto. From here, you can choose to guess how much herb to fill the grinder with, or you can use the plastic measuring cup that comes included, for more precision. This cup measures for a single, king, or California king-size cone. In terms of weight, that comes out to ½ gram, 1 gram, and 1-ish gram respectively.

Getting Started

Using Otto is easy. To turn it on, hold the button until it lights up. From there, all you need to do is press the button to start the “milling” process.

If you prefer to stuff your own cones, roll up yourself, or pack bowls, then you can use Otto solely as a grinder. To avoid all of that unnecessary work, it comes with an O-tube which you can put a cone into. Otto magnetically attaches on top of this tube and stuffs a cone within seconds.

You may notice that the O-tube is too deep for regular-sized cones. That’s where the adapter base comes in. It’s the little plastic tube that came in the box. Drop it in the tube and that allows for smaller cones to sit flush at the top for easy removal.

Cleaning

The cleaning process is easy thanks to the 4-in-1 tool. It has a stiff brush on one end and flat, sharp plastic on the other. Banana Bros recommends using the plastic end to loosen up any material and the brush to brush it away.

Both sets of teeth of the grinder are also removable. To do this, pull them straight up and out. You shouldn’t need any isopropyl alcohol unless you have resin built up. If you have build-up, we recommend anywhere from 70% to 90% isopropyl alcohol. Make sure to clean the safety switch, shown in picture A-3.

If we’re being honest, we haven’t cleaned our device since we got it over a year ago. We haven’t had to. There is minimal resin build-up on the teeth. Most of the mess is shake and kief that has nowhere to go. The brush tool can handle that.

Our Review

Uniqueness: 10/10

Practicality: 3/10

Ease of Use: 9/10

Overall Rating: 7/10

I received the Otto as a gift for Christmas, so I had no expectations. The device does the job it is supposed to do well, but for the price tag of $150, I don’t find it to be much of a necessity for any smoker. Unless you have arthritis/chronic pain in your hands OR you smoke cones regularly. I personally wouldn’t spend the money myself on it, but if it is justifiable for those who do need it.

Also, most of the hassle with stuffing a cone is the mess, and there is still some mess that happens with this as well. It’s a fun novelty item and cool to show off to friends or as a gift idea. It only saves you a few minutes of not having to manually grind your herb and fill a cone or roll up yourself.

Don’t get us wrong. The product itself is fantastic and does a great job of grinding up herbs. We love it for that. Our only issue is the price point and that’s where we put it as a novelty item. If someone is purchasing it for medical reasons, then it could be considered a medical device.

If you do decide to purchase it, the device comes in 4 colors (black, red, and gold). The black version is the only one that is $150. The rest are $200 and come with a “free” carrying case. It is a well-crafted piece of tech and should last for a relatively long period of time barring any malfunctions. Unfortunately, Banana Bros only offers a 1-year limited warranty. Even if you have the money to spend, I would use it towards a quality vaporizer and/or manual grinder instead.
